The Business Website Design Guide

In this guide you will learn the basics of website design along with how to plan your design, get found online and optimize for conversions

The Basic, Plan, SEO & Conversion

This Business Website Design Guide is your blueprint for creating a website that will look good and convert. In chapter 1, we'll go over the basics of web design and then go deeper into site structure and how to create an SEO-friendly site in chapters 2 and 3.

Finally, we'll finish up by talking about conversion-optimized designs to keep in mind as you're designing your own site. By following these guidelines, you can be confident in the final product of your business website!

So whether you are looking to build your own website or having a digital marketing agency build one for you, it's important to know the difference between a simple digital business card that looks good and a powerful business website built to close more deals for your business 24/7.

These are the main chapters in this website design guide made for small business owners.

But before you head over to read the first chapter, here is some important information to understand why we created this website guide.

What Is A Business Website?

There are many interpretations of what a business website is, but here is my description:

"A business website is simply a website that was designed to perform at the highest level of brand representation, information delivery, sales transactions, lead conversions, interactions and act as a marketing hub for the companies online presence."

The number one complaint heard from business owners is that their website doesn't do much for their company. The main reason being is that their website wasn't designed to do business in the first place.

It's like asking why your Minivan doesn't go as fast as that Lamborghini. It just wasn't designed to perform that way.

You see, anyone can build a website these days (I even have a 15-year-old niece that can build one for you), but not everyone can build a business website that converts and generates leads. It requires special skills, experience, and the type of knowledge used to create this business website guide.

Then the question comes up.

Can't I Hire A Website Designer To Build My Business Website?

That's exactly what most business owners do. And that's their first mistake. That's why most small businesses fail in the first couple of years of opening.

Let me explain.

Your typical "web designer" probably went to school or learned how to design websites using any of the many content management systems (CMS) out there. And they might even have an eye to create a beautiful design. But that's where the buck stops!

Most web designers never have:

  • Owned their own profitable business.

  • Ranked a website on Google (SEO).

  • Developed conversion rate optimization (CRO) skills.

  • Studied the art of writing sales copy.

  • Understood how marketing automation works.

  • Built a marketing strategy.

  • Learned how to create a business persona.

The list goes on and on!

And most web designers that I speak with don't even know what a marketing hub is.

Can you see what the problem is with just hiring a so-called "web designer"?

And please don't get me wrong, we have many talented web designers on our team at 2Damax Marketing. But even they understand that they are only a small part of the business website design process. We also have talented SEOs, Graphic Designers, Sales Copywriters, etc. that come together to build websites that perform for our client's businesses.

Let me explain what a solo web designer will build for your business.

The Online Digital Brochure

Most experienced website designers that we have met only have the skills to create what I call an "online digital brochure."

Basically, they will build a website that offers nothing more than what a paper brochure would offer your potential customers, except that this one is available to view online.

Depending on the designer's skills, you might get something that looks like it was built in the 2000s, or it might even be modern and mobile responsive.

The designer will ask you to provide them with your own content or write some for you to the best of their ability. And as I mentioned above, most don't have the skills or experience to write compelling sales copy that will persuade your prospects to do business with you.

So now, hopefully, you have a visually appealing online digital brochure, but without the fundamental basics of a business website, no structure, won't rank on the SERPs (search engine result pages), and will never convert visitors into customers.

Building A Powerful Business Site

In this guide, I will provide you with the information we use to create our clients' websites.

When you hire a digital marketing agency like ours to build your business website, you get a website designed with a strategy-based perspective. In addition, your website will be built by an entire team of professionals, including:

  • Web Developers

  • Conversion Rate Specialists

Your website will be seen, created, and analyzed by people who have the experience required to build a website that will position your brand's online presence into the minds of your potential customers.

So if you want to know what it takes to build your business site or want to make sure that you know what to request and expect when you hire a reputable agency to prove you with website design services, then let's start with Chapter 1: The Basics Of Website Design. See you there.
